Siddiqua Kabir : A short biography

Professor Siddiqua Kabir
Siddiqua Kabir was a popular culinary artist and nutrition expert. Siddiqua Kabir is not just a name, she is an institution. She has shown that cooking is an art.

Siddiqua Kabir was born in Dhaka on 7 May 1935. She is a nutritionist, author, educationists and pioneer of television cooking show. She passed HSC from Eden Women's College and was graduated in mathematics from the University of Dhaka. Then she was earned another master’s degree from Oklahoma State University in 1963 in food and nutrition science.


He made significant contributions to the development of Bengali cuisine. As she was a nutritionist, she tended to maintain the nutrition value of each and every cooking. More spices used in Bengali cuisine. So it’s very important to maintain nutrition value in Bengali cooking. She showed it how to cook delicious food using fewer spice in cooking.


Most of Bengali housewives learned to cook by reading her book and watching her TV show. In 1965 Siddiqua Kabir has started a cooking show on Pakistan Television. That was first Bengali cooking show on television screen. Later she continued her cooking show on BTV from 1986 to 1990.


Siddika Kabir was one of the well known and respected figure in Bangladesh for her cookbook and cooking show "Siddiqua Kabir's Recipe" on Ntv. Her cookbook "Ranna Khaddo Pushti" was one of the popular book to every educated Bengali family. That was one of the best selling Bangladeshi book. She get lots of award and recognition for this book. She was also involved in many social work. She worked as the consultant of consumer brands like Dano, Nestlé and Radhuni.


She got married in 1972 and she passed away on 31 January 2012 in Dhaka.
